What is SoGEA? Broadband without a phone line

SoGEA is fibre to the cabinet broadband sold on its own, without the traditional phone line. It is one of the main replacements for broadband-plus-landline packages as the PSTN closes.

The short version

SoGEA stands for Single Order Generic Ethernet Access. It uses the same copper line from the cabinet to your premises as FTTC broadband, but there is no PSTN phone service on it. If you want phone calls, you add a VoIP service.

Should you choose it?

If full fibre is not available at your address, SoGEA is the simplest way to keep broadband after the switch-off. Where FTTP is available, it is the better long-term choice.
